By setting up my studio in a storefront window, passersby can see me at work and come in to commission paintings. The portraits, combined with a series of \u201cpictures in words\u201d documenting these interactions, serve to capture the experiences, aspirations, and tensions in this historically poor African-American working class neighborhood as it undergoes sharp economic and social changes.
